My first documentary for Dutch Television!

‘Bloodties’ is a project about my grandmother. She left her home and two small children to follow her Nazi lover to South America. At least, that is the story that is told in our family. Trying to get a grip on my past, I obsessively researched my family history. But the deeper I dig, the more I lose that grip. I start to question why I so desperately want to have a conclusive story about the past.

This project came to life during the pandemic and made me question how we make our own stories. It is also a new step in my artist practice. This is going to be my first documentary / Teledoc Campus for Dutch Television. Thanks to KRO-NRCV & Teledoc Campus & Prospektor.

The Migrant opening at Erasmus Huis.

Yesterday “The Migrant” exhibition was officially opened at Erasmus Huis, Jakarta!

It was opened by the Rector of Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ) Dr. Indah Tjahjawulan, M.Sn., followed by a live online interview with the artist Anaïs López and Laura Verduijn from Prospektor, hosted by Director of Erasmus Huis Yolande Melsert.

“The Migrant” is a multimedia exhibition by Dutch artist Anaïs López, which tells the story of Mynah, a bird who traveled from Indonesia to Singapore to London, where it became homesick and stopped singing. The project also tells a wider story about our treatment of animals, social engineering and our attempt to shape an ideal society. At the same time it is a metaphor for our relationship with ‘the migrant’.

Produced by Amsterdam-based documentary and multimedia agency Prospektor, “The Migrant” uses audio, video, text and photography to take you on an unprecedented journey. The exhibition runs until 6 March 2022, and you can come to Erasmus Huis directly without prior registration. Erasmus Huis is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 16:00.

The Migrant will be on show at Foto Tallinn.

The handmade golden silkscreens (2018–2019) will be presented here and form part of López’ multimedia project, The MigrantThe Migrant tells the turbulent life story of the Javan mynah. A member of the starling family, the bird is originally from Java (Indonesia) but was introduced to Singapore in the early 20th century via the songbird trade. Today, the feathered friend is reviled, persecuted, and even killed. The Migrant tells the remarkable life story of one bird whilst simultaneously addressing broader themes, such as the complex relationship between humans and animals, the consequences of rapid urbanisation, and the position of the unwanted outsider.

The silkscreens, which represent the story of Mynah, are all unique and made with golden ink. They were exhibited at the Dutch Photography Museum in 2020.

The 2021 edition of Foto Tallinn takes place at Kai Art Center between September 2nd and September 5th, presenting the latest works by 37 Estonian and international artists.

New initiative!
Bringing art to the people during the pandemic!
The Sandwich Show is a photo exhibition on sandwich boards that you can order for the street in front of your house or elsewhere.
In these Corona times, working at home, eating delivered food and in social confinement, four photographers decided to bring you their work offline and tell you the stories behind the photos in person. Photographers Reinier Gerritsen, Jaap van den Beukel, Wil van Iersel en Anaïs López stroll through the city with boards on their chests and backs with two photo exhibitions. When they arrive in your street they form a line and one photographer talks about his work. Then everyone turns around and it’s time for the other exhibition. Then they continue their journey to their next destination.
